Introduction to Prepositions

A preposition is a word showing the relation of a noun or a pronoun with another word like a person or a thing in a sentence. It is basically placed before a noun or a pronoun, but in certain cases nouns are followed by prepositions.

Here are a list of some words that are used as prepositions:-
In, on, at, by, to, ,for, into, of, off, with, from, along, over, between, behind, below, before, during, after, near, against, upon, among, under, above, up, down, beside, across, till, until, through, since.

Lets take a look at the following examples. The underlined words are prepositions.
1. There were no cell phones until the 19th century.
2. My friend is fond of crabs.
3. Lily sat between her father and mother.
4. We reached Delhi before sunset.
5. The thief put his hand into my bag and took away the valuables.
