Introduction to Nouns

Conversation without using nouns is impossible in all languages, which clearly means that Nouns are not only important in English but in all other languages as well. When a child learns to speak his/her first words are mostly none others but nouns.

Lets take a look at the following examples:-
- Dennis is running. (Dennis-Person)
- I came from Denmark last week. (Denmark-Place)
- I like tigers. (Tiger-Animal)
- Don't throw stones. (Stone-Thing)
In these above examples the underlined words are Nouns.

It can be clearly said that Nouns are 'Naming words'. Words that describe a person, place, animal or thing are called Nouns, which is clearly seen in the above mentioned examples.
Everything that is around us has a name, and that name is called a Noun.

Table below shows examples of some words that are nouns.
Person Place Animal Thing
